The performance is based on the short story “The Canterville Ghost” by Oscar Wilde.
Opening on October 31, 2024 at State puppet theater Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Script is written by Elitsa Petkova.
In the end of the 16th century, sir Simon Canterville passes away in very bizzare circumstances. Since then, his sinned ghost hovers through the mansion and sows disturbance and fear through the whole Canterville, until the Otis family buy the Canterville mansion and decide to make a cozy home from this deserted castle… because everything can be fixed with a decent amount of money! And if Your chains squeak too much, there is always an advertisement with the greasing solution, there is a decent cleaner on a great discount. And if the troublesome ghost doesn’t behave, we will have to take away his chains.
What happens when the modern, pragmatic person meets the ghosts of the past?
What should we value and praise?
Is there a way for the different generations to meet and accept each other?
Is there a way to respect without fearing?
And if we’re gladly asked, are we able to make a step back and pay homage to the past?
The Canterville ghost rings his chains for 500 years to prove, that there is a meaning in his existence, until he meets Virginia, who turns his world around with the simple, pure and childish question: “Does it all worth it?”
